COME HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS AND GET YOUR PHIL

COME HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS AND GET YOUR PHIL

From the familiar clip-clop of the horses’ hooves in Anderson’s Sleigh Ride to a sing-along for everyone, the Erie Philharmonic’s Come Home for the Holidays is an event that will bring holiday cheer to all. Warm your heart (and your feet!) on Saturday, December 8 at 8 p.m. at the Warner Theatre with the Erie Philharmonic and friends.

NOTE:

Get your tickets early for a chance to win some extra holiday cheer: If you purchase your tickets before December 1, you will be entered for a chance to win two tickets to see Clay Aiken live on December 16 at the Erie Civic Center.

“I can’t wait to celebrate the season with all of you here in Erie," Music Director Daniel Meyer said. “We will be joined by friends from the Erie Philharmonic Chorus, Penn State Behrend College Choirs, St. Paul Cathedral Children’s Chorus, violinist Chad Hoopes, and the Lake Erie Ballet.”

Led by Music Director Elaine Braun, the Erie Philharmonic Chorus always makes the holiday pops concert complete. Among others, the Chorus will perform It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year and A Feast of Carols.

Jason Bishop is the director of the Penn State Behrend College Chorus. Bishop has been praised as a passionate and efficient conductor of both choral and orchestral repertoire with recent performances to his credit celebrating Mozart’s 250th anniversary.

Adding a youthful touch to the holiday experience, the Cathedral of St. Paul Children’s Choir, directed by Sharon Downey, will help rekindle childhood holiday memories. The choir has performed nationally in Williamsburg, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Pittsburgh, and will be performing Shepherd’s Pipe Carol and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

At only thirteen years of age, violinist Chad Hoopes has appeared as a soloist and performed with several orchestras, including the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Sinfonia Orchestra. Hoopes, who lives in Cleveland, will be performing Handel’s For Unto Us A Child is Born. Members of the Lake Erie Ballet will perform to the tune of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker.

Tickets prices for the show range from $15 - $47. Discounts are available for students, groups, and seniors, and $10 rush tickets will be available 15 minutes before show time. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Call 455-1375 extension 4 for ticket information.

Daniel Meye'rs 2007-2008 inaugural season is presented by Scott Enterprises. This concert is sponsored in part by Hanes Erie, PNC Bank, JET-TV and Classy 100.

SUBSCRIBERS: GET A YEAR-END TAX RECEIPT

It certainly is a busy time of year. If you are a subscriber and are, unfortunately, unable to attend the December 8 Holiday Pops Concert, you can turn in your tickets to the Box Office before the showdate and receive an in-kind tax receipt (check with your tax preparer for advice). Since the show is selling fast, we'll be glad to re-sell your seats to another patron. Call 455-1375, ext. 4 for details.

THE PHIL'S "PRESENCE" AT CHRISTMAS

Christian singer Michael W. Smith will perform songs from It's a Wonderful Christmas album here in Erie on Sunday, December 2, 7:30 pm at the Tullio Arena.  The Erie Philharmonic will perform with him.  Also appearing with Smith are the Katinas and former "American Idol" contestant Melinda Doolittle.  Tickets are $39.75 - $57.75.  Call 452-4857 or 456-7070 for tickets or visit www.erieevents.com.   For more information visit, http://www.eventtickets.net/email/mws_christmaserie.html

You can win two tickets to Michael W. Smith by being the first person to answer this question correctly:  What instrument makes the sound of the famous horse "whinney" in Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride? (respond to this email)

The Erie Philharmonic On the Move  takes the orchestra to Meadville on Sunday, December 9 at 7 pm at the Academy Theatre (275 Chestnut Street). Come Home for the Holidays will feature many of the pieces from the December 8 concert at the Warner. Tickets are $15 and can be ordered at (814) 337-8000 or at www.meadvilleacademytheater.com.

On December 16, the Phil will perform with Clay Aiken on his fourth holiday tour - Christmas in the Heartland.  He'll feature songs from his 2004 Merry Christmas with Love which set a modern record for highest first-week sales for a Christmas album.  Tickets range from $37.75 - $57.75.  Call the Tullio Arena numbers listed above or visit www.ticketmaster.com.

Win two tickets to Clay Aiken by being the first person to respond correctly:   From what Christmas Carol is the following line -- "Ah, ah, beautiful is the child."  (reply to this email - Erie Phil Chorus members not eligible!)

MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO GET YOUR PHIL

MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO GET YOUR PHIL

MEET THE MAESTRO

On Saturday, December 8, before he takes to the Warner stage in the evening, Music Director Daniel Meyer will be busy preparing and serving a delicious entree at Wegmans on Peach Street!  You can meet him from 10:00 - 11:30 am.

Wegmans, a long-time partner with the Erie Phil, will once again provide intermission treats at the Holiday Pops performance on December 8.  For the second year, they serve as the Phil's ticket sponsor.  Check the back of your concert ticket for a discount at their coffee bar.

NO LEFT-HANDED BEETHOVEN

In the last edition of E-Notes, you were asked to find something wrong with the picture of Beethoven.  The photo was intentionally reversed as he was actually right-handed.  The winners included:  Kathie Rothrock , Trevor Barr, Kim Leland and Jonathan Helmreich.  They each received a ticket voucher.  Congrats!

THE JANUARY SPOTLIGHT

THE JANUARY SPOTLIGHT

Looking ahead to the next symphonic concert on Saturday, January 26 you'll find one dynamic duo.  No, not Batman and Robin or Simon & Garfunkel, but our own Music Director and Concertmaster.  Violinist Ken Johnston will be featured In the Spotlight performing Barber's Violin Concerto bursting with beautiful melodies for which Barber was famous.  Daniel Meyer will conduct, and other pieces include Brahms Acadmic Festival Overture and Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra.

NEWS IN THE NEW YEAR

Last, but certainly not least, the Erie Phil has some big news for the upcoming year.  Stay tuned. . . . .
